About Alvaro Picardo
Constantly inspired by his Catalan and Spanish roots, together with his love of modern art and brutalist architecture, Spanish designer and craftsman Alvaro Picardo started painting lampshades with the aim of giving new life to otherwise forgotten objects, creating bespoke interior-design pieces. Through daring, colourful and hand-painted lampshades he aims to provide a distinctive feeling to any space or room, enhancing its atmosphere by adding an individual work. Each lampshade is unique: a tribute to the spirit of craftsmanship, which lies behind its particular finish, with traces of the artist’s personal handiwork visible in the finished product.
Alvaro’s work is featured in World of Interiors, House&Garden, Elle Deco.. as he is constantly working with London’s leading interior design studios like Sybil Colefax, Jonathan Reed, Buchanan Studio, Max Rollit or Douglas Mackie, to name just a few.
His most recent project is a collection of hand-painted lampshades for iconic Swedish shop Svenskt Tenn

Seasonal Studio Sale featuring ceramic works by Abigail Schama, Ylana Roback , Lotts Potts, Nicole Douglas- Morris, Daf Price and Sporty Mike. Featuring hand painted lampshades by Alvaro Picardo
Join us in the studio for a festive class of wine and browse hand crafted products from all our makers.
Abigail Schama presents an exhibition of new ceramic works on the theme of listening and receptivity. These are displayed within her working studio, The Mews Coachworks, a female makers’ space in West London housed in the original studio of sculptor Antanas Brazdys.
These new ceramic works suggest an active hunger seeking the nourishment of speech as well as food: a rim that becomes an open beak, a vessel resembling a listening shell. They have been described by the author Margie Orford as ‘bound together by love and a fractured strength that gives them their fierce and vulnerable beauty’. The process starts at the wheel, then altered, slipped, sometimes bound, drawn or engraved upon before being fired and re-fired.
This event supports the charity Camden Psychotherapy Unit (CPU). With that in mind, the thrust of these works concerns a vessel or body having the capacity to hold and listen. They also raise critical questions of our received ideas about functionality and dysfunctionality. The event includes cocktails and food by chef Rosie Sykes, some of which is cooked in the studio’s pottery kiln.
The talk with Abigail Schama and Rosie Sykes discusses fulfillment and the creative process; making a vessel or a dish of food is not an end in itself but part of an ongoing conversation that is as much about social and emotional connection as it is about the act of creation itself. Abigail and Rosie explore the different ways craft and cooking speak to our states of emptiness and longing, especially in light of the tactile deprivations of COVID-19.
The free exhibition opens on Thursday evening, visitors must register for a ticket. The event on Sunday is a paid-for ticketed talk and lunch, in support of CPU.

Join Faiza in a personal workshop discussing skin care and serums from the Elixseri range
“I’ve been working in the cosmetics industry since leaving university over 25 years ago and I’ve worked for the likes of Givenchy, La Prairie and Aromatherapy Associates. I describe myself as a beauty minimalist - I have a pragmatic approach to beauty and skincare, which verges on the minimal!
3 years ago I founded a skincare brand, Elixseri, with 2 other industry experts. We saw that skincare was becoming more complicated and more confusing. We saw that so many skin issues were caused by simple mistakes (mainly overusing!) and so we actively promote and encourage a “back to basics” approach.
One of the joys of my job, is to advice you and to help you achieve the ultimate skin goal: healthy skin.
I would love to join you to answer any questions you may have regarding your routine, ingredients you are interested in, products you should be using. “

Free Writing
Give yourself a time limit. Write for one or ten or twenty minutes, and then stop.
Keep your hand moving until the time is up. Do not pause to stare into space or to read what you've written. Write quickly but not in a hurry.
Pay no attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation, neatness, or style. Nobody else needs to read what you produce here. The correctness and quality of what you write do not matter; the act of writing does.
If you get off the topic or run out of ideas, keep writing anyway. If necessary, write nonsense or whatever comes into your head, or simply scribble: anything to keep the hand moving.
If you feel bored or uncomfortable as you're writing, ask yourself what's bothering you and write about that.
When the time is up, look over what you've written, and mark passages that contain ideas or phrases that might be worth keeping or elaborating on in a subsequent free-writing session

Abigail Schama will be holding an online workshop via zoom exploring more Kuriniki techniques.
Kuri nuki, or “carving out.” Take a block of clay and any type of tool and slowly whittle into the clay to search for a form. There’s no throwing, pinching or coiling; just discovery by digging. The technique is simple and accessible to all, no special equipment needed.
Making an Object to hold
Physical touch beyond the confines of home is impossible right now. The contact I’m so used to with so many people I love suddenly carries a risk of harm. Getting to know someone new in the flesh is out of the question.
Clay offers another kind of contact, a touch that brings to life. We can coax it into becoming what it is.
This is earth that offers sensual tension and play, and time and be in a relationship with another body, to look and feel and push it (and ourselves) to the limit. Intimacy here promises possibility and expression in space. Once a shape appears, scratching and drawing can bring out character.
Be loving and take pleasure. Abigail Schama
